Team Brett at Manchester
F ormer Connecticut Senior Match
Play Champion Tom Brett won the 15th
Annual Steve Garren Member/Member
with partner Kevin Murray on June 9
at Manchester Country Club in what
might be called walk-off fashion.
On the first hole of a sudden-
death playoff in the two-ball event,
Brett, 2016 Match Play Champion, aced
the 192-yard 18th hole with a 6-iron.
Brett and Murray shot 67 (-5) to
tie Dominic DuBaldo and Tom Kelly in
regulation.
The tournament, in its 15th year,
honors former Manchester assistant
professional Steve Garren, who died of a
heart attack in 2004.
The tournament benefits both the
CSGA Scholarship Fund in honor of
Widdy Neale and the PGA Connecticut
Section Foundation.
This year’s event raised $1200 for
the non-profits.
