Surrey U14s retain
Sussex Salver
I
N previous years,
this match was
played as a tena-side 2-hole format
with nine-hole triple
foursomes in the
morning and 18
holes triple singles in
the afternoon.
For this year and going
forward it was decided
to change to format to
just 18 holes triple singles
but increase the number
of players from 10 to 12
aside, plus a travelling
playing reserve, thereby
giving more boys the
opportunity to play and
gain valuable experience
of county matches. For
2014 it was the turn
of Sussex to host the
match and the beautiful
Cowdray Park was the
venue selected and an
excellent choice it was.

defending champions
Surrey were determined
to retain the trophy the
county had won three
years previously.
The winning county is
determined by the final
total of points collected
from each match, two
points for a win, one
point for a half and
nothing for a loss. By
the end of the match
Surrey had comfortably
retained the trophy to
increase their winning
streak to four years. The
players from Sussex and
Hampshire had battled
and given their all but
they had come up against
a very strong Surrey team
who fully deserved their
win.
