Autumn splendor in Historic Roscoe Village
Coshocton County , seems to beckon to visitors with its rolling countryside , fascinating historic sites , and ample natural resources . At no time is Coshocton more beautiful than the fall when the hillsides are awash with autumn splendor , creating remarkable vistas that go on for miles . Nestled in the center of it all is Historic Roscoe Village , a village that celebrates Autumn in the Appalachian foothills with the Annual Apple Butter Stirrin ’ Festival .
The Apple Butter Stirrin ’ is traditionally held on the third weekend of October , with this Oct . 15-17 marking the 50 th anniversary of the event . What began as a small gathering to celebrate the harvest has evolved into a threeday event that features musical entertainment on an open stage , craft and food vendors lining the
streets , and tours of the historic buildings that tell the tales of Roscoe ’ s early years along the Ohio & Erie Canal in the 1800s . Johnny Appleseed is said to have walked this region , leaving behind seedlings that would grow to produce abundant apple crops – the source for local apple butter . Plan to spend a full day at the festival enjoying music , great food , all the wonderful vendors , leisure tours of historic buildings and children ’ s activities . You can even help stir apple butter cooking over an open fire . The festival is open Oct . 15 and 16 from 10 a . m . to 6 p . m . and Oct . 17 from 10 a . m . to 5 p . m .
