The Beacon ’ s scarecrow Read Weekly is back in town for another fall season .
Weekly spent last fall visiting his brother in Florida but didn ’ t like the hot weather . Everyone thought he was crazy for wearing his work boots and pants at the beach . He ’ s happy to be back home and hanging out at 226 Main St . in Coshocton . You can ’ t miss him enjoying a cozy spot on a park bench while the crows work their farmers market stand . Of course , he never would have known about the market if it wasn ’ t advertised in his handy copy of The Beacon .
Welcome Weekly back to town by voting for him starting Saturday , Oct . 1 online at www . scarecrowtown . com . The annual scarecrow contest is sponsored by Clary Gardens . Registration is now open , and any resident , business or organization is encouraged to create and enter a scarecrow or scarecrow scene . If you need a place to put your scarecrow , they can be placed at Clary Gardens for free .
All scarecrows will be placed into one of three categories : Pop Culture ,
Creepy and Traditional ( anything that doesn ’ t fit into the other categories ). All of the scarecrows will be entered into the People ’ s Choice category .
If you register before Saturday , Oct . 1 , the cost will be as follows : businesses at $ 20 , nonprofit organizations at $ 10 and residents at $ 5 . After Oct . 1 , add $ 5 to each price . If you want to place your scarecrow at Clary Gardens , call them at 740-622-6524 and they will help you place your creation on the walking trail . Register at www . scarecrowtown . com . Registration is open until late October .
“ We are partnering with the new Leadership Coshocton County class to be our panel of judges this year . Many of them are associated with businesses or organizations that put up scarecrows , so they will not be permitted to vote on categories where they have affiliated entries ,” said Jandi Adams , director of Clary Gardens .
Residents are encouraged to watch for scarecrows around town and vote for their favorite . A map will be available on the website as scarecrows are registered . Online voting will be available from Oct . 1-28 . You can vote for as many scarecrows as you like . The winners will be announced at the Fall Festival on Saturday , Oct . 29 at Clary Gardens .
