On Aug . 14 the Coshocton County Vietnam Veterans presented $ 500 scholarships to two graduating high school seniors and one post grad individual . This group has been awarding scholarships to recipients since the 1980s but decided this would be their last time giving out scholarships due to most , if not all , of their immediate family members having graduated .
Aubrey Schofield , the granddaughter of member Jim Roberts , is a 2017 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and graduated from the University of Cleveland with her BA in Science - medical studies in 2021 . Schofield was unable to attend the meeting due to beginning her Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in physician assistant studies at the University of Toledo . However , Schofield sent a letter of gratitude to the group for their support and financial blessing .
Similarly , another recipient was unable to attend the meeting but requested her grandfather and member of the Coshocton County Vietnam Veterans , Dave Dilly , express her gratitude for the scholarship . Dilyn Tumblin is a 2021
graduate of River View High School who will attend Ohio University in Athens this fall . Tumblin had not declared a major at the moment .
Robert Dalzell , president of the Coshocton County Vietnam Veterans , was able to witness his granddaughter , Maddy Mahon , receive her scholarship in person after the meeting . Mahon is a 2021 graduate of River View High School and the Coshocton County Career Center ,
where she studied early childhood education and already obtained six continuing education credits during her time there .
Mahon will continue her pursuit of a degree in early childhood education this fall at Central Ohio Technical College in Coshocton . After two years she plans to finish her bachelor ’ s at Ohio University Zanesville . She said she intends to become an elementary teacher and would ideally love to teach first , second or third grade .
Even though this was the last time the Coshocton County Vietnam Veterans would present scholarships , the group will continue to do Help a Vet at Christmastime , where they give gift certificates and provide a meal or gifts to veterans in need .
