September 17, 2020 The Beacon • 5 Baumgardner shares thoughts on some recent political articles Letter to the Editor: On a recent Saturday morning, I clicked on the internet CNN to see what articles would appear. Many of you may very well have done the same. Two of the articles were “What Steve Bannon’s Arrest Reveals About Building the Wall” and “Trump Speaks for the First Time Since Former Advisor Bannon’s Arrest.” Another article was “The Pandemic Shows America Cannot Afford Its Dysfunctional Health Insurance System.” I printed each of these articles for future reference. We Build the Wall is a private organization that solicited donations to build the wall. Some $1 million from the organization was allegedly sent to one of Bannon’s separate organizations so it could “secretly” be funneled to the organization’s founder, Steven Kolfage. Kolfage had promised repeatedly that none of the WBTW’s money would go to him. Bannon of course said upon leaving the courthouse that this whole thing was contrived to stop the building of the wall. According to the Texas Tribune and Publica in July, only 3 miles of the wall had been built. I do not know what the truth is File about how much of the wall has been built. But here is another idea about whether President Trump is a victim of the plethora of advisor cronies that have been convicted of crimes of money laundering and lying to Congress or that he was aware of the character of appointments. Remember Trump said he would appoint the very best people to government positions. Perhaps, he may be a victim of unscrupulous people. Speaking of leadership, when one is a leader, you have to take the negative criticism along with the accolades. I can remember as a student council advisor reminding my council presidents of that. I would encourage readers to google the above articles for your assessment. In another matter, consider the article about what the pandemic has shown America about its dysfunctional health insurance system. Consider the inequalities it has shown to minority groups. Some would discount the reporting of these statistics, but should we also consider the sources of this information? Some of these sources are from cabinet positions of our government. In closing, I remember before Trump was officially a candidate for president, Howard Stern warned him about the criticism he would face. Stern reminded him he was far better off financially and comfortable in life than he would be as president. Should we be reminded about how former presidents aged considerably beyond what four or eight years as president did to them? I think about how remarkable it is that Jimmy Carter at nearly 100 years old has been so active building houses and teaching Sunday school. Martin Baumgardner Warsaw LETTER from Page 3 sands of mats being produced and shipped daily. In later years Asian car companies that located factories in North America also became large customers. Another term for this portion of Pretty Products was Contract Floor Mats. This term was derived from the fact the car companies would supply us with the specifications and actual molds for manufacturing their mats, from which we would produce their products. This was a highly competitive environment with many other mat suppliers also vying for this business. Being regularly visited and manufacturing procedures and finished products constantly being inspected by car company engineers and others, Pretty was always able to receive new contracts for many consecutive model years. In a side note, Pretty’s Aftermarket Division, Menu A KNO-HO-CO-ASHLAND CAC SERVICE of which I was involved, was the world’s largest supplier to the retail market. Examples of some of our largest customers were K Mart, Walmart, Pep Boys, Canadian Tire, Costco, Meijer’s, Genuine Auto (Napa) and more. In closing, I would be remiss to not mention other Coshocton County manufacturers that also contributed substantially to the automotive industry: Jones Metal & Jones Zylon, Coshocton Steel (currently AK Steel) and Yankee Wire Products. I am sure I left someone off of this list. For that, I apologize. Thank you for allowing me to add a little more to the Coshocton County automotive manufacturing history.
