West Lafayette Chamber hands out annual awards

The West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual dinner at Schumaker Farms to recognize outstanding local businesses in the village .
“ This is an opportunity for people in the community and people in the chamber to get together . They see what we do at the chamber , and hopefully , we will get more help coming in . We want to recognize people for their outstanding efforts in making the community better . That ’ s what we are doing tonight ,” Dave Rogers said .
The Business of the Year went to Shannon Lawrence from Statements by Shannon .
“ This is a huge surprise ,” she said . “ Thank you for all your support . Obviously , I couldn ’ t have done it without everybody here .”
She also won the Citizen of the Year .
“ I work hard every day , and I am thankful for all of you ,”

Shannon Lawrence of Statements by Shannon received two awards presented by Dave Rogers at the annual West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Dinner .
Lawrence said . “ I was born and raised in West Lafayette . I am a 1990 Ridgewood High School graduate , a graduate of Ohio State School of Cosmetology and just celebrated 26 years at Statements by Shannon , a Paul Mitchell Hair Salon at 501 E . Main St . I was a Paul Mitchell National Educator for 10 years .”
Now Lawrence does permanent cosmetics including eyelashes and hair .
“ I love my clientele , and I love the community ,” she said . “ I am a small-town girl . I moved to the city , lived there four years and knew I belonged back in a small town . I feel safe and comfortable here . My clients are also my
friends , and I don ’ t think you can get that just everywhere . We have it here in West Lafayette , and I am proud to be a community member and a business owner .”
Rogers said in closing , “ I want to say this on behalf of Oren Griffith , who said , ‘ This is a great community . We all know it ’ s a place you can go where you won ’ t get knocked down for saying yes sir and no sir . We treat people with respect and vice versa .’ I hope everybody had a good time . Everyone be safe going home . We will see you next year .”
The Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary partnership of businesses and professionals working together to improve the quality of life in a community . In West Lafayette they host the annual West Lafayette Homecoming and other events and are planning the Saturday , Oct . 29 Halloween party at Ridgewood Middle School and the Saturday , Dec . 3 annual Christmas parade .
