Ground broke for Coshocton County Career Center addition

On Thursday , Oct . 17 , the Coshocton County Career Center broke ground for an addition of approximately 11,000 square feet to the east side of the building , putting the total square footage just under 100,000 square feet for the entire facility .
This new addition will increase career opportunities to 14 additional choices at the school . These two new programs include careers geared toward a utility line worker or applied machine and advanced manufacturing . “ I want to begin by extending my deepest
thanks to some very important people who have helped me make this dream a reality . To our board members , your vision and unwavering commitment to our students have guided us to this moment . To our dedicated team members , the time and effort you have put in with our students each and every day is commendable ,” Superintendent Matt Colvin said . “ Each of you go above and beyond to ensure all our students needs are met both inside and outside of the classroom .

funding opportunities or just thinking of us when things come up that could be a good hands-on learning opportunity for our students .”
He also thanked the county school superintendents and the students .

This groundbreaking is for you , and it represents the endless possibilities ahead as we strive to equip you with the tools , knowledge and experiences that will shape your futures . As we
push forward , remember that everything we ’ re building is for the future , our students ’ future , our community ’ s future , and for the next generation of leaders and innovators .”
A collaboration of architectural firm SHP and Beaver Construction along with specialized subcontractors were responsible for bringing the vision to life .
“ This project reflects our continued commitment to inspiring and empowering students to reach their full potential , and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our facility , students and community ,” Colvin said .

Janusian Club , fire department share safety message

In 2003 the Janusian Club asked the West Lafayette Fire Department to assist with handing out smoke detectors to Ridgewood kindergartners .
The project started in 2002 when the Janusian Club decided to use the funds from its Ladies Night Out to buy and distribute smoke detectors to kindergartners .
Glenn Hill , who was once chief and is now assistant chief at the West Lafayette Fire Department , has been a part of the project ever since .
Sue Olinger took over the distribution of the smoke detectors at the school in 2004 . She had taught at Ridgewood for

With Oct . 6-12 being Fire Prevention Week , the Janusian Club thought this was a great time to hand out smoke detectors and educate the children on fire safety . Together , Olinger and Hill go around to each kindergarten classroom and give them a brief fire safety lesson .
Olinger gave them pointers on how to be safe around displaying their jack-o ’ -lanterns , such as using a battery-operated candle instead of a real candle with a fire , and she discussed safety when they are cooking or helping with the cooking in the kitchen , such as don ’ t put a kitchen towel on the stove .
Hill talked to them about how the smoker detector works and said if they were to ever hear it beeping in the middle of the night , they should roll off their bed and crawl to their safety route , staying low as they only have 18

In 2021 they started handing out batteries to the first- , second- and third-graders . This was a way they could reinforce the safety of changing the battery once a year .
The West Lafayette Fire Department is not the only organization that has come on board to help with this program . Auer Ace Hardware and the Lafayette Township trustees also have taken part in the smoke detector project .
On Oct . 10 the Janusian Club and the West Lafayette Fire Department handed out 382 smoke detectors and batteries . Since 2002 the club has handed out approximately 2,300 smoke detectors and 2,700 batteries .
