Reformation Sunday will be celebrated
The Presbyterian Church in Coshocton will celebrate Reformation Sunday on Oct . 27 at 10:30 a . m . The Reformation marks the birthday of the Protestant Church , begun in 1517 .
The service will be led by interim Pastor Mark Unrue and liturgist Tom Heading . Musical leadership will be provided by the Praise Choir ; the Chancel Choir ; the Roscoe Brass Quintet of Don Kason , Ricky Harvey , Joan Kason , Keith Watson and Steve Hildreth ; Mark Wagner , organist ; and Matt Hayes , timpanist . The Praise Choir is led by Barb Snyder , and the Chancel Choir is led by Charles R . Snyder .
The hymns of the day will look at the church ’ s past , present and future . “ A Mighty Fortress Is Our God ” is perhaps the hymn most commonly associated with Reformation Sunday . It was written and composed by Martin Luther sometime from 1527-29 . “ God of Life ” was written for the 175th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church , Coshocton , in 1993 . The text was written to reflect the ministry of the congregation . The third hymn , “ My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less ,” is a reminder that as the world changes , hope perseveres . The tune for this hymn is shared with “ Eternal Father , Strong to Save ” ( The Navy Hymn ).
