Annual Honor Flight Luncheon held at senior center

The Honor Flight is an opportunity for veterans to see the monuments in Washington , D . C . and to receive a welcome home many didn ’ t get when they served .
The annual Honor Flight Luncheon was held Nov . 19 at the Coshocton Senior Center . The event is a time for those who took the flight to share their stories and encourage others to take the trip .
One of the guest speakers at the luncheon was Matt Miller , who went on the flight as a guardian so he could assist veterans on their journey . His father and uncle both served in Vietnam . Miller ’ s father was a Seabee , and his uncle was a Marine who unfortunately was killed in action .
“ My dad died about 10 years ago , and before that , he had put in an application to go on the Honor Flight ,” Miller said . “ Three months later he got a letter saying it was his turn . Being able to go as a guardian meant a lot to me and was a way for me to honor him .”
Miller ’ s daughter Madison Miller , who was Miss Ohio 2023 , has always had a heart for the Honor Flight and has been a part of many welcome home celebrations .

my mom said she remembered looking out the window of the funeral home , and life was just going on ,” Miller said . “ I am so proud of this community , because when we lost Raymond Border , we did it right for his family .”

The second speaker at the luncheon was Beth Johnson , executive director of Honor Flight Columbus .
“ I love seeing all the red shirts out there and the original gray ones ,” she said . “ I love that you wear them and wear them with pride . Coshocton County has had 149 veterans go on the Honor Flight , but I know there are more out there . I challenge everyone in the shirts to tell five more veterans about their trip .”

“ My dad was a World War II veteran , but he
passed away before this got started ,” Burns said . “ He would have loved to have gone . Please , please go on the Honor Flight .”
