Thanks to a $ 225,000 grant , a spot on Court Square where grass doesn ’ t grow easily will soon be the home of the Veterans Memorial Plaza .
Mary Beck , administrator and project manager for the Coshocton County Commissioners , said the plaza will be approximately 55 feet by 75 feet and will feature lighting and brick inlay .
“ When it is finished , it will look like it ’ s been there as long as the courthouse has ,” she said .
The lighting at the corners of the plaza will match the lights on Three Rivers Bridge .
“ The lights are so expensive ,” Beck said . “ We would like to replace more in the city too , but we need to take things slowly .”
Beck said the plaza will be used for community band concerts and other events throughout the year .
The veterans council is purchasing the signs for the plaza , and the Blue Star Mothers will be purchasing a memorial to place in the plaza .
“ I can imagine lots of uses for the plaza such as meetings or exercise classes or for people to just sit and read and enjoy being outside ,” Beck said .
She also thought people might inquire about using it for weddings , as the gazebo on Court Square is a popular place for couples to get married .
“ We are working with Our Town Coshocton to make Coshocton like Hallmark Christmas and are adding items yearly for this goal ,” Beck said .
From mid-November through the end of January , a temporary ice skating rink will be installed on the plaza .
“ A company approached us about it ,” Beck said . “ They bring in the rink , and families can rent skates to use the rink . We will get a small part of their profit , but we really have little to do with the skating rink .”

Beck said other places who have had the skating rinks have had vendors set up along the rink .
“ They sold kettle corn and hot chocolate , things like that ,” she said . “ I would love to see that happen here too . The cost of skate rental wasn ’ t much and would be something families could enjoy together .
