The Coshocton Planetarium will show two different Christmas shows this holiday season .
On Monday and Tuesday , Dec . 6-7 , special guest Dr . David Hurd from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania will present “ Star of Wonder !” Guests will discover the connection between why Santa goes south for the winter , seasons , seasonal constellations and why Christmas is in December . This presentation by Hurd does not use the full-dome projector .
On Tuesday , Nov . 30 ; Wednesday and Thursday , Dec . 1-2 and
Dec . 8-9 ; and Monday through Thursday , Dec . 13-16 , “ Season of Lights ” traces the history and development of many of the world ’ s most enduring holiday customs , all of which involve lighting up the winter sky . The show recounts the historical religious and cultural rituals practiced during the winter solstice . It also takes a look at some more light-hearted seasonal traditions .
“ Season of Lights ” will introduce guests to a selection of Northern Hemisphere constellations . The show demonstrates how seasons are created by the sun ’ s path across the sky in relationship to the Earth ’ s tilt and orbit . The program also explores the possible astronomical explanation for the Star of Bethlehem .
The Coshocton Planetarium is located at Coshocton High School on the fourth floor . The show will begin at 7 p . m . and is free , but reservations are required . Visit www . coshoctonplanetarium . com to make a reservation . All guests are required to wear masks .
