Edie Ryan started out on Main Street and plans to finish her career downtown .
Edie ’ s Homestyle Diner opened at 611 Main St . in October . Ryan has operated several restaurants in Coshocton including her first , which opened on Nov . 19 , 1990 , at 535 Main St .
She served up her homestyle cooking on Main Street and for a time at her restaurant in the former mini plaza on Second Street . After being on Second Street for several years , she moved to the former Spitler ’ s Restaurant on South Whitewoman Street just off state Route 16 .
“ The construction was going on over there on the highway , and that was frustrating ,” Ryan said about her previous location . “ Then we had the pandemic , and it was just too big of a building for me to handle .”

Marcella Ann Waite

Marcella Ann Waite , 82 , of Coshocton , passed away on Sunday , Nov . 7 , 2021 . She was born on March 28 , 1939 , in Zanesville , Ohio to the late Russell and Mary Jane ( Thombaugh ) Roberts .
Marcella enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family . She also worked at Dawson Funeral Home for many years . In May of 1958 , she married Roger Waite who survives .
She enjoyed crocheting , traveling to Amish Country , shopping at flea markets , and sitting on her porch watching her hummingbirds . She was proud to say that she saw Elvis Presley in concert many years ago . Marcella also loved her dogs and cats but most importantly , spending time with her children and grandchildren .
She is survived by her husband of 63 years , Roger Waite ; five children , Sheryl ( Berry )

Ryan has been working in the restaurant industry since she was in high school .
“ I worked at Dick ’ s Dairy Barn in Canton and loved it ,” she said . “ When I was out of high school , I worked at an attorney ’ s office . I hated it . I told my dad that , and he said I had to do something , so I became a waitress .”
Ryan came to Coshocton with her now ex-husband and started working at Spitler ’ s when her kids were in school . She worked at restaurants again after getting remarried and moving away from the area .
Ryan then found her way back to the Coshocton area when her husband was transferred to Zanesville in January 1990 . Today she still sees some of the same customers

“ I love my customers , and I ’ ve had some great employees ,” Ryan said . “ That ’ s made it easy on me . My family also helps and fills in . This is my life .”
Her customers can find the same homemade fresh food they have for years . “ We have the best spaghetti sauce ,” Ryan said . “ It ’ s a big seller for us . We also have a great breakfast , lunch and dinner .”
Edie ’ s Homestyle Diner is currently open seven days a week from 6 a . m . to 2 p . m . However , Ryan hopes to soon be able to return to their normal hours of 6 a . m . to 8 p . m . To check on hours , call the restaurant at 740-623-8131 .
“ I have the best employees a person could ask for ,” she said . “ They are very friendly and get to know everybody . We are fast , efficient and affordable .”
10 grandchildren , Chris , John , Josh , Chad , Jennifer , Natalie , Justin , Kelsey Jo , Nick and Nate ; several great-grandchildren ; and five brothers , Mike , Glenn , Danny , Dean , and Sonny Roberts .
She was preceded in death by two brothers , Dale Roberts and Carlos Roberts .
Per Marcella ’ s wishes , a cremation will take place at a later date . Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home is serving the family .
