Zach ’ s Treasures opens on Main

By Josie Sellers Another new business has popped up on Main Street in Coshocton .
A ribbon cutting was held Nov . 2 at Zach ’ s Treasures at 420 Main St . The store gives Lori Speaks the opportunity to showcase her wreath-making skills and love for refurbished items .
“ I always kind of wanted to open a store ,” Speaks said . “ It all started with making wreaths , and Zach ( her son ) would paint some bottles for me . It built from there .”
Their store has a work room in the back where they can perfect their creations and an area set up where Speaks can custom make wreaths for customers . Crowtown Mill Designs handmade wooden items also are available at the store . “ His stuff is awesome ,” Speaks said . The store is named after Speaks ’ son Zach .
“ I ’ m really proud of Zach and Lori ’ s awesome inventory ,” said Mayor Mark Mills , who attended the ribbon cutting . “ The wreaths in there are beautiful , and

How do we make the past personal ?

How do we make the past personal ? How about taking a few minutes this Thanksgiving holiday season to thank our American service men and women . And let ’ s take time to fly the American flag . Another way to make the past personal would be to show support for veterans in a VA hospital by sending a thank you card or care package .
How about saving your irreplaceable past . Give thanks to those who kept early photographs , books and babies ’ first haircut .
More to the point , researchers are now currently collaborating with Ancestry to offer an insight into the combat experience of past generations by using Fold3 . Using these new key elements , a researcher retains a power of insight and can discover , for example , a Civil War unit of an ancestor that is connected with information about the places where

Jay ( from Crowtown Mill Designs ) has done work for me personally and for city hall . I appreciate them all taking a chance on downtown . We want people to come support them and all of the downtown businesses .”
Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce executive director Amy Crown was unable to attend the event , but Kirby Hasseman from the executive committee filled in for her .

the individual fought . The researcher ’ s descendants are able to stand in the exact place that their family member stood centuries ago .
You can be thankful someone saved all those forgotten newspaper articles you were going to add to a scrapbook when you found the time . Well , the time is now . Your grandfather ’ s handwritten journal was written from his experiences on a WWII battlefield . Be thankful for the little gems of wisdom that are hidden there .
Look for military records that may include draft registrations , service records , medals , ribbons , discharge papers , pension papers and land warrants .
As you can see , there is no end to thankfulness .

“ This is one of my favorite parts of being with the chamber ,” Hasseman said . “ Small businesses are the backbone of ever community . It ’ s exciting to see you put yourself out there , and I ’ m really excited to have you here on Main Street .”
Zach ’ s Treasures hours will tentatively be Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a . m . to 6 p . m . and Sundays from noon to 4 p . m .
On the home front when WWII rolled around , the Automobile Club of Southern California passed out a red , white and blue paper called Drive for Victory . Thankfully , your mother saved this interesting contribution to the cause .
“ As a patriotic motorist , I will follow these five points towards preserving the transportation system of California . Point number one : I will voluntarily drive under 40 miles per hour as requested by President Roosevelt . Point number two : I will set up a strict personal mileage budget , curtailing all necessary driving . Point number three : I will share business driving with friends , neighbors or fellow employers on a turn-a-bout basis . Point number four : I will have my automobile and tires thoroughly inspected regularly by competent mechanics to ensure maximum life . Point number five : I will cooperate in the war time program of staggered business hours to relieve over loads on available mass transportation facilities .”
Be thankful your aunt saved family recipes and scribbled in a cookbook revealing her personality . Or perhaps every Christmas you published a family newsletter . Thankfully , over the years these became a valuable asset , often used to research family memories .
Be thankful , too , for finding civil certificates for birth , death , marriages and divorces .
These are considered original sources because they are made close to the time of the event by a recorder who could read and write .
Just like a family newsletter , be sure to verify your facts . Remember to be thankful for any school records you find . They offer an ancestor ’ s approximate age from the date and grade .
Be thankful this holiday season . Good hunting .
