Pancake day was a big success

By 10 a . m . the volunteers at the Kiwanis Pancake Day estimated they had made 800-900 pancakes . Unlimited pancakes , along with sausage links ( extra sausage could be purchased ) and drinks , were served at the Elks on Thursday , Nov . 4 from 7 a . m . to 2 p . m .
Jenny Strickler , president of the Kiwanis , said the group worked for a few hours on Wednesday evening to get everything ready for Pancake Day . Some of the volunteers planned to be there all day on Thursday while others had shifts .
“ We usually have the Key Club members from the high school here to help too , but with COVID the club thought it would be safer to keep the number of volunteers down . We changed a lot to keep everyone safer ,” Strickler said .
Kiwanis uses the money made from Pancake Day to support many local projects such as the hospital ’ s Fill a Backpack campaign , several kids sports teams , junior achievement , the United Way and several others .
“ Volunteers got here about 6 a . m . this morning to get started , and they started serving at 7 a . m .,” Strickler said . “ I think we ’ ll have another big rush when people take their lunch breaks .”

“ We always have a good time back here ,” said Maureen Karl , one of the volunteers .

Kiwanis is a club with about 30 active members . They are always looking for more members and welcome anyone to join . Meetings are every Wednesday at the Elks from noon to 1 p . m . If interested , come to a meeting .
