Senior center celebrates Older Americans Month

Every year in May the Administration for Community Living observes Older Americans Month . It ’ s a time to recognize older Americans ’ contributions and make a commitment to serve older adults in one ’ s community . The 2024 theme is “ Powered by Connection ” to help reduce feelings of isolation , loneliness and other issues .
The Coshocton Senior Center celebrated Older Americans Month on May 21 . Co-Directors April George and Jean Jacobs chose one day during the month to have a party and celebrate seniors .
“ So today we have the Walhonding Rube Band ,” Jacobs said . “ It is a little extra special today because we have door prizes and an extra special lunch . The Rube Band is a big hit with our seniors . They are always popular entertainment ”
Susan Warren came to sit up front and listen to the band with friends . She loves the Walhonding Rube Band .
Bess Van Atta enjoyed the celebration . “ We like coming here to meet friends for lunch ,” she said . “ We could have come any other day , but today we are enjoying the music .”
Roger and Bonnie Titus from Warsaw also like to meet friends at the senior center for lunch .
Ruthann Durben , Sally Wolford and Ramona Geiger were enjoying music and lunch together .
Locals honored at Cedarville University
Rebekah Unkefer of Warsaw was named to the dean ’ s list at Cedarville University for spring 2024 . This recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.5 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours .
Kailee Harris of Coshocton was named to the dean ’ s honor list at Cedarville University for spring 2024 .
This recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.75 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours .

Roger and Bonnie Titus from Warsaw like to meet friends for lunch . Bonnie said they come often to have lunch , meet friends and listen to the music .
Geiger said , “ I come to the senior center Monday through Thursday and sometimes Friday . They have so much to offer . It ’ s a fun time every day and good food . So come join us .”
May and June are busy months with Older Americans Month in May and Elder Abuse Awareness in June . Saturday , June 15 is Elder Abuse Awareness Day . Everyone is asked to wear purple for elder abuse .
