Blessing Bag program looking for donors to ensure future

The Blessing Bag program is truly a blessing for Ridgewood Local School District families .
The Blessing Bag program was initiated from an awareness of children often facing food insecurity during the COVID-19 outbreak . When school was not in session early in 2020 and throughout the closure of schools during the pandemic , students were provided meals at no cost to any family . Ridgewood families could pick up as many meals for breakfast and lunch daily that were needed for their household , no matter the age of the children or their place of residence . School buses made designated stops to deliver food to outlaying families that could not come to the school .

regular school sessions , the need to supply food to children facing food insecurity was recognized for weekends and holidays when school was not in session . The West Lafayette United Methodist Church became involved through the efforts of former Pastor Matt Anderson to continue the program . He obtained grants from the Coshocton Foundation in 2020 and 2021 , and the church provided the volunteers and a staging area to pack the Blessing Bags .
The former Bakers Foods and now Riesbeck ’ s Market now delivers the food to the church each
Tuesday , and the volunteers pack the bags that are then delivered to the Ridgewood Elementary , Middle and High School for distribution for weekend and holidays during the school year .
The cost of purchasing the food is approximately $ 10,000 a year . Ridgewood Local Schools supported the program after the grants came to an end during the 2023 school year . Funding from the school district for the upcoming year is uncertain . To continue the program , the West Lafayette United Methodist Church will solicit donations from organizations and individuals . Donations can be made to the West Lafayette United Methodist Church , 120 W . Union Ave ., West Lafayette , OH 43845 , designating Blessing Bags .
