Salvation Army appreciates United Way, community support
The Salvation Army is one of several United Way partner agencies and has served the Coshocton community for more than 100 years.
“ The Salvation Army has been in operation in Coshocton for 121 years,” Maj. Kevin B. Schoch said.“ The Salvation Army was a part of the original Community Chest, established in Coshocton in 1940, which predated and has evolved to become the United Way.”
The United Way provides funding to assist in the provision of The Salvation Army’ s social service programs in Coshocton.

“ In the current fiscal year, the United Way is providing $ 25,000, which equates to 5 % of the local Salvation Army’ s social service budget and 3 % of the local Salvation Army’ s total operating budget,” Schoch said.“ Inkind donations comprise 51 % of the local Salvation Army’ s current fiscal year budget. These in-kind donations include food, personal hygiene items, clothing and household items.”
The Salvation Army provides basic needs service to individuals and families, designed to help those experiencing the effects of poverty within the community.
These programs meet the basic needs of impoverished residents by providing groceries through the food pantry( three meals per day for three days, based upon household size), regular bread and perishable food distributions( Monday through Friday from 9:30- 11:30 a. m.), clothing and household items available through the clothing room, direct financial aid in the form of utility assistance with natural gas shut-off notices, and by linking families to other sources of support available to them in the community through regular interaction with a Salvation Army case worker and volunteers.

“ Funds provided by United Way assist in covering The Salvation Army’ s operational costs( staffing, facility, vehicle) for providing these essential services to our community,” Schoch said.
There are many ways for the local community to support the ministry of The Salvation Army here in Coshocton. People can make a financial contribution directly to the local Salvation Army. They can conduct a food drive at work, church or anywhere they have a network of people who are willing to help. You can donate your gently used clothing, shoes and household items to The Salvation Army Clothing Room. You also can sign up to ring the bell at a Salvation Army Christmas Kettle next Christmas.
Another way to assist The Salvation Army is by participating in the Postal Carrier Food Collection date on Saturday, May 10 by leaving nonperishable items in or by your mailbox. Everything collected that day goes to The Salvation Army for benefit of the Coshocton community.
