Tweens invited to take over Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum

At April’ s Tween Takeover, kids got a hands-on look at how museums use black lights( ultraviolet or UV light) as a noninvasive way to study historical artifacts, artwork and documents.

Mobile Mammography Unit coming to Coshocton May 12

The Center for Cancer Health Equity and OSUCCC James Cancer will present their Mobile Mammography Unit at Coshocton Public Health District on Monday, May 12.
The Coshocton Public Health District will host the first visit of 2025 from the OSUCCC James Cancer Mobile Mammography Unit. The mobile unit provides the opportunity for individuals to receive their annual breast cancer screening closer to home. It’ s also a great resource for those who may be uninsured and / or underinsured with no established physician.
The mobile unit will be located in the main parking lot at the Coshocton Public Health District. It is scheduled to arrive on Monday, May 12 from 9:30 a. m. to 3:30
Genesis HealthCare System is one of 25 rural hospitals and health care systems launching the Ohio High Value Network to collaborate on clinical and business initiatives to strengthen health care in rural communities across the state.
The network’ s foundation is a clinically integrated network caring for a population of more than 2.5 million patients and featuring 25 hospitals and other care sites in more than 115 cities and towns across Ohio. OHVN also is setting up operational older, original components, helping staff to spot restorations and alterations.
Tables featured UV-reactive artifacts and antiques from JHM’ s archives including minerals, fossils, ivory, glassware and Native American baskets. Each display included one item that did not glow under black light,
collaborations designed to control costs and share best practices among its members.
“ The Ohio High Value Network will enable rural hospitals like Genesis HealthCare System to work together with other likeminded, independent health care organizations in Ohio,” said Matthew Perry, president and CEO of Genesis HealthCare System.“ The more we work together, challenging kids to identify the outlier and explain their reasoning.
In one case, a Pope Gosser teacup saucer remained dark— except for a small fiber sealed under the glaze that lit up unexpectedly. This led tweens to examine two Nez Perce baskets and debate whether subtle color variations were deliberate or the result of natural dye inconsistencies.
The next Tween Takeover will happen Monday, May 12. Each session will feature

Eligibility criteria is as follows:— Women who do not have breast symptoms, are not pregnant or nursing, and with no previous breast cancer.
— Must be at least 40 years of age to have a screening mammogram.
— Women under the age of 40 need to have a written order from their doctor.
— Women will be screened for eligibility for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Project, which will cover the cost at 100 %.
