Grant helps the Maternal and Child Health Center
The distribution committee of the Coshocton Foundation awarded $ 4,789.78 to the Coshocton County Maternal and Child Health Center to provide support for the purchase of a handheld ultrasound with a compatible printer to better serve their prenatal clinic patients .
The Maternal and Child Health Center , which has been in existence since 1972 , provides health care to pregnant women and children up to age 19 . The goal of the center is to eliminate health disparities , improve birth outcomes , and improve the health status of women , infants and children . Prenatal services provide the opportunity for local women to receive care closer to home .
Amanda Poorman is a certified nurse midwife who provides the comprehensive care at the clinic . Patients will continue to receive their anatomy ultrasound , growth ultrasound and delivery at Knox Community Hospital . However , with the purchase of a new handheld ultrasound device , Poorman is able to personally check on the health status of babies at any time during the pregnancy . This ensures both mom and baby are monitored closely to improve health status and birth outcomes .

“ With the support of the Coshocton Foundation , we are able to expand our services locally . The purchase of this important equipment will allow for timely evaluation of fetal development , amniotic fluid levels , fetal positioning prior to delivery ( detection of breech position ) and detection of abnormalities . We strive to provide the most up-to-date care for our clinic patents , and those goals are made possible through generous community partners such as the Coshocton Foundation and the United Way of Coshocton ,” said Tammy Smith , director of nursing .
The Maternal and Child Health Center is a United Way of Coshocton County community partner .

392 square feet of a house provided to them by Sacred Heart Catholic Church . This year , thanks to the generosity of Wiley Companies , it will be more than doubling its space when it moves to an unused portion of the company ’ s building on the corner of Walnut and Hickory streets . The new square

footage of the center will be more than 2,000 square feet . Project manager for the relocation is Steve Mercer .
“ They ’ ve been very helpful with site preparations , and a fair amount of work has already been done ,” Mercer said . “ We are going to make it as inviting and welcoming as possible .”
The estimated cost of the project is $ 148,480 ,
