The Elk ’ s Eye Art Market open to area artists
Zanesville , once home to major pottery and tile companies , is now becoming more popular for its growing artist community . The downtown has galleries such as the Alan Cottrill Sculpture Studio , Yan Sun Art Museum & Gallery , and Ron Cole & Cole ’ s Aircraft Aviation Art .

The artists who have works available at the market come from the surrounding area — Muskingum , Noble , Guernsey , Coshocton and Perry counties . The art ranges from photographs to pottery , jewelry , rugs , woven goods , stained glass , leather goods , quilted wall hangings , hand-forged knives and woodworking .

There will be an open house celebrating her 90TH BIRTHDAY on Saturday , March 29 , 2025 at the Frontier Power Community Room from 2:00-4:00 P . M . Cards welcome , NO gifts please .
Much of the art is décor , but there are functional pieces such as pottery , wood furniture , jewelry , shawls and ponchos .
By holding to a juried standard , the quality of work is held high .

Get ready for a night of laugh-out-loud comedy as Little Theatre Original Productions brings its new sketch comedy show , “ A Showcase of Adequate Acting ,” to the stage at Newcomerstown Middle School for a free showing on Saturday , March 15 at 7 p . m .
This show is written and performed by a troupe led by G . Shawn Clay . Known for bringing laughs to unexpected places , like civic clubs , nursing homes and more , Little Theatre Original Productions is dedicated to making top-notch comedy accessible to everyone .
“ We ’ re thrilled that Newcomerstown gets to experience this one-of-a-kind performance ,” said Michael Wise , executive director of ARTSNCT . “ This isn ’ t just a comedy show ; it ’ s an uproarious , unforgettable night of entertainment that will leave you gasping for breath between laughs .”
The performance is part of a 100th anniversary celebration for the Newcomerstown Middle School building , and Wise is hoping the show inspires future theater lovers .
“ The first time I saw Little Theatre was during high school , and I was hooked ,” he said . “ I want young people today to have that same experience . Who knows ? Maybe the next great comedian is sitting in the audience .”
Graduated from McDowell High School in Kentucky in 1953 . Graduated from Morehead College ( University ) in 1957 .
Came to Coshocton County and taught Home Economics at Warsaw High School from 1957-1965 and River View High School from 1965-1970 .
Mary Louise moved to Mansfield , Ohio and taught mentally handicapped children for 3 years . Moved back to Coshocton in 1971 and started a high school class for mentally handicapped . Then resumed teaching Home Economics , finally retiring in 1988 . Married William “ Bill ” Newell in 1976 . He passed in 1994 . Opened Wedding Specialties ( Bridal Shop ) in the Newell Plaza on 2nd Street . Was open for 10 years , doing an average of 100 weddings yearly . Worked at The General Store Quilt Shop in Roscoe Village for six years .
Market is open four days a week , year round . The market also hosts seasonal events to incorporate the art with holidays and other outside events .
