Well , I ’ m to a point where I need to say something , but there are so many topics from which to choose . Should I opine on the Feb . 28 Oval Office meeting that made me embarrassed for my country ?
I saw an interview of President Zelenskyy in between the first refusal to agree to give away half his country ’ s rare earth minerals and this new draft . He had told the interviewer he would agree to that stipulation if there also were guarantees of security from the U . S ., an item ignored by the administration .
This request actually has some history . America promised security in exchange for Ukraine ’ s destruction of nuclear weapons after

the collapse of the Soviet Union ( Google Trilateral Statement , signed in 1994 ).
Or maybe I should share my thoughts on how closely Project 2025 is currently being followed . This will take a little research , so that ’ ll be another day .
For now I will delve into the rapid and massive federal cuts we ’ ve seen . If you take a new leadership position , would you erase all that has been built and start from scratch ? Would a new superintendent come into a district and start slashing programs and staff before he / she is well-informed about what good would be taken away from students ? Would a new judge come

in , cut employees and write new court rules without first knowing what would suffer ? Would a new owner of a factory fire the entire line and bring in all new people ? I would think not .
These losses were felt immediately and will continue to be felt as the ripple effect spreads . Worldwide , children are already suffering because of the food and medical attention no longer available from

USAID . Nationally , we are set up to be a little less secure because the loss of military experience in various security agencies and a lot more frustrated in access to government services because of the thousands of personnel let go .
Locally , small business owners at Wooly Pig Brewery are feeling the sting to the tune of about $ 145,000 in frozen solar project grant money for which they had already been approved . ( Let ’ s support them and others with extra business to try to make up a tiny bit .)
Personally , it has even hit my bucket list . I wish I would have visited more of the national parks earlier . With the federal cuts there ,

they will either end up being closed , privatized , or sold to the highest bidder for the oil and minerals .
I have already contacted my congressmen and given them my opinion regarding the job Musk is doing . Call 202-224-3121 and follow the prompts to reach your representatives . DOGE may be finding methods to change the way tax dollars are spent and even saving us some unnecessary expense . However , it seems to me the method Musk is using is kind of like hunting rabbits with a machine gun — you ’ ll probably get the rabbit , but there ’ s a good chance you won ’ t have much meat left .

I have never written a Letter to the Editor before , but I feel moved to do so regarding the use of a single word that has recently been repeated often . The word is “ woke .”
About six weeks ago , I overheard the word used by two men talking nearby . What I heard , more or less , was “ now we won ’ t have to hear about all that woke crap .” This was the first time I had heard this word used negatively , and I asked them what they meant .
They would not answer , but they did ask me what the word meant to me , and I responded by saying the word was a descriptive term for
PRESCHOOL individuals manifesting understanding and empathy for people of color and the many discriminatory practices they must face in their day-to-day lives . In other words , I replied , the word was used as a profound compliment describing an individual who had taken the time to understand and care about the important concerns of a group other than the person ’ s own .
I added the word had

K-2 assistant principal and preschool director , “ Our goal is to open the day care to students that are also in preschool if necessary .”
The cost of the day care program is $ 150 per week , $ 75 for up to three days and $ 55 for Mondays only . Early drop-off is $ 10 per week . Half-day preschool tuition is $ 150 a month , and the full-day option is $ 275 per month . Parents who believe they may qualify for financial assistance can apply through the Ohio Benefits Portal at www . benefits . ohio . gov .
During the 2025-26 school year , they will offer four preschool classrooms and one day care . However , due to the overwhelming interest they have received , the district may

since spread beyond its original application to persons of color and was now used in a similar manner for one ’ s knowledge of the issues of other marginalized groups .
Over the ensuing six weeks or so , I have heard similarly negative uses of the word from many sources , but most prominent among them has been the frequent negative use of the term by the brash and ill-mannered individual who now serves as our commander in chief . His use of the word , and its use by others of a similar mindset , has consistently ( and quite clearly ) shown contempt and scorn ( if not outright hatred )
consider opening a second day care . Both preschool and day care classes will be staffed with two qualified adults , and the district ’ s goal is to keep each class at 14 students or less .
Anyone interested in either preschool or day care through the district should contact Miller at the elementary school . Families also can fill out the survey they received a few weeks ago to get their child on the waiting list .
“ Over the course of several weeks , we have been gathering information as to how our community would like their preschool students to be served . We have made it a priority to utilize this data to best accommodate our community . We will begin the registration process at the beginning of May and are very excited to meet our new students and families ,” Miller said . for those who would strive to be woke and toward those whose “ wokeness ” is directed .
I don ’ t wish to be misunderstood on this issue . There is ample room for a debate as to whether our government should intervene on these issues or let them be handled by the people in their dayto-day affairs . However , if one ’ s decision is to dismantle government programs aimed at these issues , must they be performed with such disdain ?
This is what has led me to write a letter for the first time . I ( and the many millions who share my values on this issue ) will not surrender the use of this word . While we cannot stop those who would use this word in such a cruel manner , we intend on continuing as best we can to think , talk and act in a manner that is consistent with the best of what the word “ woke ” can mean .
We will continue to care about others with less privilege than ourselves , will afford those who have undergone much in the way of harsh treatment a safe space in which they can relax and simply exist , and will seek to evangelize others to join us in this wonderful and deeply Christ-like means of treating others . You , dear reader , are invited to join in this sharing of unconditional love .
