You can enjoy summer right here
By Josie Sellers Beacon Editor

It’ s fun to get away, but not everyone has the budget or time for a big vacation. Here are some ideas for having fun in your own backyard this summer. From activities for kids to festivals and concerts, Coshocton offers something for everyone.

Hannah Moore from Precious Treasures Preschool and Learning Center in West Lafayette is excited about their summer day camp. More information about their programs can be found on their Facebook page.
The Coshocton County District Library is working together with Clary Gardens, the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum,
Roscoe Village and the Pomerene Center for the Arts to offer children’ s programming around the theme,“ Color Our World.” Sign up for summer reading at the Coshocton Main Library and West Lafayette Branch Library and learn more about the other programs.
Jenny Mullett enjoyed spending time at the library with her daughter Ruby when she was younger.
“ Ruby loved story time at the library so much as a little girl,” Mullett said.“ She became a lover of books and stories and still loves reading, plays, and is so expressive. I think it made her fall in love with stories and history. Our library is amazing with all they do for the kids. We

still have friends today we made back then.”
Another activity for kids is Camp Invention. One will be held June 16-20 at Coshocton Elementary School and June 23- 27 at River View Elementary and Ridgewood Middle School.
Teacher Shelly Larrison is excited for Ridgewood’ s Camp Invention.
“ The kids have the best time,” she said.“ I have been a teacher for this program for several years. The creativity and the STEM activities are outstanding. The projects and ideas the kids come up with are absolutely fantastic. Plus, I really love how the kids take recyclables and turn them into their very own inventions. You could say they take trash and turn it into treasures.”
Tina Krasky remembers having fun going to a local church camp and a camp at Lake Park when swimming lessons were still given in the lake. While those specific camps might not be offered now, there are still plenty of Vacation Bible Schools to choose from and swimming lessons at Lake Park. VBS listings can often be found in The Beacon Bulletin Board, and information on swim lessons is on the Coshocton County Kids Safety & Swim Facebook page.

Lafayette Homecoming Parade.
“ It’ s my favorite because it is memories from my childhood,” Croy said.“ The homecoming was huge when I was a little girl, and we never missed the parade.”
Peggy Gore and Mandy Brenly both enjoy the Sunflower Festival at the KOA campground.
“ We enjoy all the fun family activities they have to enjoy, the awesome local food trucks and grabbing some photos with the beautiful scenery,” Gore said.
Brenly also loves the scenery at the festival.
“ It’ s pretty, and I’ ve done maternity pictures and rainbow skirt pictures there, and KOA staff are awesome,” she said.
