The Gilbert Reese Family Foundation, Central Ohio Technical College, Ohio State University at Newark and community sponsors will host the 25th anniversary Independence Day Concert and Fireworks Celebration.

Independence Day Concert and Fireworks Celebration planned

The Gilbert Reese Family Foundation, Central Ohio Technical College, Ohio State University at Newark and community sponsors will host the 25th anniversary Independence Day Concert and Fireworks Celebration on Thursday, July 3 from 5-11 p. m. on the schools’ shared campus in Newark. Admission and parking are free.
There will be food, live music and patriotic festivities. More than 15 local food trucks and vendors located across campus will offer a variety of food and drink options. The Licking County 4H Band and the Sticks and Stones, local groups, will perform throughout the evening. The celebration will finish with a fireworks display, sponsored by the City of Newark and accompanied by the Newark Granville Symphony Orchestra. The duration of this year’ s fireworks show will be extended in honor of the event’ s 25th anniversary.
Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Pets, alcohol, tobacco products, grills, drones and personal fireworks are not allowed.
Reserving space on the campus before 10 a. m. on July 3 is prohibited. Personal items found on campus before that time will be considered abandoned property and discarded.

Genesis Cancer Care Center has received recertification

The Genesis Cancer Care Center has received recertification by the QOPI Certification Program LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association for Clinical Oncology and an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. The QOPI Certification Program builds on the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative, providing a three-year certification for outpatient hematology / oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care.
“ We are proud to earn this recertification for another three years as it demonstrates our commitment to ensuring our patients receive high-quality cancer care,” said Pebbles Kieber, director of Genesis Cancer, Palliative Medicine and Hospice Services.“ Our team works hard each day to meet the highest standards of care set forth by the QOPI Certification Program to provide the best care possible for those we serve.”

applying for recertification, the center participated in a voluntary comprehensive site assessment against clearly specified standards that are consistent with national guidelines and was successful in meeting the standards and objectives of the QOPI Certification Program.
Standards and objectives assessed included creating a safe environment related to staffing, competencies and general policy; treatment planning, patient consent and education; ordering, preparing, dispensing and administering chemotherapy; and monitoring after chemotherapy is administered including adherence, toxicity and complications.
