Cy Young Days Festival queen enjoyed her reign

Trying something new led Zoe Hardesty of Coshocton to be named the 2024 Cy Young Days Festival queen. Previously, she had been a member of the Coshocton Canal Court, which is part of the Apple Butter Stirrin’ Festival. It’ s an opportunity that has led to even more new experiences as she has traveled to other festivals for the past year promoting the Newcomerstown Festival.
Hardesty just finished her junior year at River View High School, where her favorite subject is math. She is the daughter of Rachel Alloway and the late Zack Hardesty. She also is a member of the Newcomerstown Church of Christ and grew up hearing about Cy Young.
“ I like going to all the
parades and seeing all the places and meeting new people,” Hardesty said.
She not only attends other festivals, but also county fairs and other events.
After she was crowned queen last June, the summer and fall months were busy with all the events she attended. These were in addition to her school activities including marching band, pep band, Certified Gold Choir and bowling. Despite all these activities, she still finds time to enjoy art and crochet.
Hardesty also admires singer Dolly Parton.
“ She inspired me to do my singing because I’ m in my school’ s choir and I love to sing,” Hardesty said.
She’ s visited many festivals and enjoyed returning to her hometown of Coshocton for a beloved festival.

Zoe Hardesty of Coshocton, the 2024 Cy Young Days Festival queen, has been busy with many activities throughout her reign.
“ The Apple Butter Festival is one of my favorites. It’ s because we do the canal boat ride, and it’ s really fun learning all the stuff that they did back in( Roscoe Village),” Hardesty said.
At the Cy Young Days Festival, her favorite activities are the talent show and
the car show. Another favorite thing to do is visit fairs.
“ I like the fairs more because you get to go around to see what they have to offer for games, and I like watching them show the animals,” Hardesty said.
Her favorite festival and
fair food is french fries.
Sharing time at court activities with friends old and new is fun too.
“ I liked that I got to run around at different festivals with my old court’ s( Coshocton Canal) princess because I also go to school with her, and she’ s in our junior high, which is with our high school. So I get to see her, and it was fun seeing her all dressed up and having fun,” Hardesty said.
In the future she hopes to attend college and open a bakery. She enjoys making brownies, cookies, cakes and pies using her grandmother’ s recipes.
“ My aunt( Michele Heaguewood) was a baker too. I learned all my baking from her, and we used my grandma and greatgrandma’ s recipes and took pictures,” Hardesty said.
Hardesty, who lost her father when she was 14,
also looks up to her grandmother Marcia Hardesty.
“ She’ s been through everything I’ ve been through. I lost my dad three years ago, and that was her son, and so we’ ve always been close, and that just brought us closer,” Hardesty said. Hardesty has some advice for others.
“ If you’ re busy, it doesn’ t matter. You can always find time to do stuff you love. And if you want to try to be on a court and you find out you love it, do it. Don’ t let your activities draw you away from it,” Hardesty said.
She also encourages everyone to just keep trying even if they fail.
“ That’ s what I do when I do art projects. If I mess up, I’ ll try again, with a different picture maybe, but I will always keep trying to get better at it,” Hardesty said.
