Anchor Church reaches out to neighbors with dinner

About a year ago The Anchor Church was fortunate enough to purchase the old Habitat for Humanity Resale store next to their church on Pine Street .
“ We don ’ t have any event space , so we were thrilled to get it for our church ,” said Amy Casey , event coordinator . “ It ’ s a wonderful asset because we want to use it to reach out to the community . This is actually our first community event using this building . Our Pastors wife Tracy Nutter suggested we have a dinner for the residents across the street at Riverside Towers . According to the manager at the high-rise , there are 99 apartments there , so we took flyers over for all the residents inviting them to a free spaghetti dinner . We put this together because we are a neighbor to everyone in the apartments . Sometimes when we have outdoor services they sit out on the balconies and listen . We thought this would be a nice gesture to reach out to them .”
The church family is still in the process of renovating the habitat building .
“ We use it for church functions , but we have a lot of work to do . A lot of that depends on money and time but it is usable

now . We want people to know this is a great church and we have a wonderful pastor , Pastor Ben Nutter . He grew up in Coshocton and graduated from Coshocton high school . His ministry is reaching out to people and saving souls ,” Casey said .

nine pounds of spaghetti using her regular recipe along with butter bread , brownies , pudding , fruit cups made by the church ladies , and everyone received a bag of chocolate chip cookies to take home .
“ This will be the first of many events ,” Pastor Nutter said . “ We opened up to the

high-rise to extend an olive branch that we want to be friends . We wanted an outreach to extend ourselves to other areas in the city . Maybe doing some things we don ’ t usually do to expand our ministry . This is something we may do four times a year . We ’ ll probably advertise it .
We bought this building so we could specifically serve the community in more ways than one . Our goal is to have a food pantry here and help people in the community . The long term goal is to have a transitional apartment here for people who are misplaced as a place to stay and get back on their feet . I heard this building was for sale when Habitat closed , and I called but they said it was already sold . I was disappointed . Later , we were having a yard sale at the church and a guy came and nailed a for sale sign on it , so I called as soon as I saw it . It just so happened on the day we were out here . We will see how it goes but that is in the future . This was my wife Tracy ’ s idea . It was her dream to do this .”
Barb Hall a resident of Riverside Towers said she was sitting on her balcony on a Sunday listening and it was a very nice service . “ I just want to thank everybody for this dinner , this is awesome ,” she said . Yolanda Davis said , “ This is nice , everything is delicious .”
Not only is the building being renovated for church activities it will also be available to rent for events in the community , like receptions and baby showers .
