Veterans invited on Aug. 16 D-Day reenactment trip
By Josie Sellers Beacon Editor
The Coshocton County Veterans Council and Blue Star Mothers Chapter OH59 are sponsoring a one-day trip for Coshocton County veterans to attend the 2025 D-Day reenactment at Conneaut Township Park in Conneaut, Ohio.
Transportation will be provided by Pioneer Trails, and veterans may bring one guest. The trip is planned for Saturday, Aug. 16 with the bus leaving at 5 a. m. The celebration marks the 81st anniversary of the Normandy D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944, and highlights the machines and events leading up to and surrounding the greatest amphibious landing ever attempted.
Admission to this event is free. Food vendors and shopping will be on-site. There will be volunteers to assist veterans with mobility issues, a nurse on the bus, and plenty of room for anyone who has mobility issues and might need to bring a scooter.
“ We saw this as an extension to the Honor Flight,” said Jim Barstow, a member of the Coshocton County Veterans Council.“ It’ s one more thing veterans can do to honor their service.”
Barstow attended the event last year but didn’ t get to see the big invasion due to weather issues.
“ It was awesome,” he said.“ There were other staged battles and even a takeover of a bridge. An uprising between camps randomly started up too. There is a lot of military vendors. It’ s everything military you can imagine.”
The deadline to sign up is Friday, July 18. All veterans are welcome;

however, veterans who served prior to 1975 will have priority.
“ It will be a long day,” Barstow said.“ The landing doesn’ t start‘ til 3 p. m., and we probably won’ t leave until close to 5 p. m. There are a lot of volunteers with golf courts, though, that will take veterans to whatever shows they want to see and to and from the bus.”
There are 25 seats left on the bus, and Barstow said they really want to fill it.
“ So far we have no World War II veterans, but we hope to be able to get some to go,” he said.“ The trip is designed for our senior veterans, but we don’ t want any empty seats. If other veterans want to come, it will be first come, first served outside of the date parameters.”
To sign up for this event, call Barstow at 740- 502-6937, leave a message or email generaljim77 @ gmail. com.
“ It’ s an event you will want to see,” he said.“ There are air crafts coming in off the lake shooting blanks. If you get there early enough, you can take rides in landing crafts. There is lots of weaponry, and tanks shoot off periodically. It’ s quite an experience. They don’ t cut corners. Everything they do up there is tremendous.”
Barstow appreciates everyone’ s support for this trip, especially Pioneer Trails, which donated the bus and the driver.
