Ridgerunners share their meeting notes
The Ridgerunners 4-H Club met June 22 at the Tomsiks’ home.
Club President Mairin Mullett and other club members answered questions about 4-H camp for first-year campers, and club shirts were discussed.
During the meeting four members gave their demonstrations, and health and safety reports also were given. The meeting concluded with snacks.
The club’ s next meeting will take place Sunday, July 13 at 7 p. m. at the Canal Lewisville United Methodist Church.

The Dixie House Restaurant expanded with the opening of the Colonial Room. The Lion’ s Club was the first group to use the space, with President Wendall Walters, Mayor John Carl Miller, and Chamber of Commerce President Rev. Wayne Harmon cutting the ribbon. Located on Main Street in West Lafayette, the Dixie House’ s new room is decorated in patriotic symbols and features a refurbished antique oak fireplace.

Kyle Kanuckel will replace Walter Harrop as River View’ s basketball coach. Kanuckel was himself a Black Bear cager during the 1975 state championship and‘ 76 perfect regular season. He already serves as assistant varsity basketball coach and served as freshman basketball coach for five years before that.

Joanne Wharton Murphy retired from her role as assistant dean of The Ohio State University College of Law. The CHS graduate said,“ It was a particular honor to me that they took someone who was not as public in their work efforts, but they acknowledged that contributions could be made in lots of different ways. I was very proud to receive the award.” She served as Ohio’ s assistant attorney-general from 1963 to 1965 and taught law at Case Western Reserve University becoming associate professor and associate dean.

“ It’ s been coming for a while,” said Royce Ann Peck, president of Royce Crafts Baskets, regarding the decision to close the company. The Roscoe Village store, 348 N. Whitewoman St., will close on the 16th of this month. The basketmaker opened shop 18 years ago, and would eventually open stores in Berlin, Ohio and Nashville, Indiana. The Berlin storefront, as well as the factory on 499 Pine St., have already closed. The Nashville store will be closing on the 9th.

The members of the Kids America Walking Club were honored for achieving milestones at their meeting Friday. Members were recognized for 50, 100, 150, 250, 600, 750 and 1,000 miles with Casey Claxon, executive director of Kids America, drawing attention to one member in particular.“ She is well on her way to 2,000 miles,” Claxon spoke about Marlene Zeigler. Marlene and her husband, Art, walk together, often as part of the Senior Coffee Walk and Talk.“ We come together and go out and do our own thing. It’ s nice. You get to meet others and become friends.” Another member of the 1,000 Mile Club, Nondis Brown, said,“ Walking does as much for you as any other type of exercise. It was unbelievable because I am 83 years old.” She cited her father and grandfather as inspirations as they walked five miles a day.“ I’ m trying to be like them. Walking makes you feel so much better.”
