2025 dog licenses on sale now through Jan . 31 , 2025
By Jen Jones For The Beacon
According to Ohio Revised
Code , all dogs age 3 months or older must be licensed . The 2025 dog licenses are on sale now and need to be purchased before Jan . 31 to avoid late fees .
Licenses are $ 15 for one year , $ 45 for three years or $ 150 for a lifetime tag . After Jan . 31 the cost increases to $ 30 per tag .
Assistant Dog Warden Ryan Conkle said , “ I always say that having your dog licensed is simply the quickest way to get your loved one home safely . If your dog is wearing a tag and gets loose , I can easily look up the license number and call you . Or if someone else finds your dog and calls me , I can do the same .”
If an owner can ’ t be located quickly , all dogs will be taken to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter to wait .
“ Once the dog is at the shelter , there are fees involved in getting him / her back . Putting a license on your dog will save you money and help us get your dog back to you safely ,” Conkle said .
Conkle said that while microchips are good , they are not fail-safe .
“ We don ’ t carry scanners with us , and there are multiple brands of microchips . The scanner we use may not pick up on the chip used . Dog licenses are just the best way to get your dog back safely and quickly ,” Conkle said .
Coshocton County Animal Shelter manager Hayley Sturtz agreed with Conkle .
“ Like any dog pound in the state of Ohio , when your dog is found to be at large , impoundment at the shelter often follows ,” Sturtz said . “ To retrieve that pet , there are redemption fees being due to the county by the owner . Although our dog pound has some of the lowest fees in this state , folks still have to pay for retrieval of that canine .
“ When a dog is wearing the current dog tag , not only does it save them a trip in via the warden or civilian altogether in 90 % of the cases , ( but ) also ensures you would pay just $ 15 to

“ When a dog has a license , it saves us that time . We appreciate those who microchip too , but that ’ s not what our wardens are looking for . We encourage all forms of ID , most importantly a dog license , be clearly placed on a well-fitted , comfortable collar ,” Sturtz said .
