SHERIFF
Continued from 14
Our involvement in initiatives like the Central Ohio Drug Task Force is pivotal in securing resources for combating drug-related challenges . We remain steadfast in our commitment to collaborative efforts , actively engaging in local and state coalitions , partnerships , and committees . This ensures a comprehensive and coordinated strategy in addressing the complexities of the drug epidemic .
Furthermore , I strongly believe in the power of education as a tool for prevention . By establishing a robust presence in our schools , law-enforcement personnel can positively influence the decision-making
|
processes of our youth , ultimately mitigating the risks associated with drug abuse .
Christopher Walters ( R )
Why are you running for this position ?
I am running for the office of sheriff because of my experience in law enforcement . I believe the staff at the sheriff ’ s office will benefit and learn more from a leader who has done the job and has served the public for the years I have . I will be a working , patrolling sheriff that will be out in the community bridging the gap between law enforcement and the people we serve and protect . There needs to be a leader that supports his staff , supports
|
the community and helps make Coshocton an attractive place to live and / or visit with the comfort of knowing our community is safe and a great place to raise a family . There needs to be a leader that takes part in community events and who has an open-door policy for anyone with suggestions or concerns they can speak to directly .
What past experiences do you feel qualify you for this position ?
|
During my law-enforcement career , I have handled a variety of calls for service on different shifts , not only day shift . For the last three decades , I have served right here in Coshocton County . I have always had a strong passion |
for serving the public and helping make our community a better place to live and work . That passion includes being out talking with our residents , listening to our residents and working with other leaders in the community .
I am familiar with the city and county as I have served in all areas of Coshocton for many years . While serving at the Coshocton County Sheriff ’ s Office , I was the FOP Union representative for the deputies bargaining unit for approximately nine years , and with my current position of chief of police , I have experience in both roles . The background I bring with me is leadership that leads by example out in the field . A public servant serves
|
the public outside the office .
What would be your top priorities if elected ?
There are several top priorities as your sheriff that I would get started immediately . Staffing has been an issue , and the revolving door of deputies brings concerns to our community . I will bring the staff back to its capacity , enabling the sheriff ’ s office to be more proactive than reactive . The dispatch / communication center staff has been understaffed for many years . The current two person per shift work schedule needs revamped . The world is a much busier place than it was in the 1980s when that schedule was established . The calls for service for all first responders
|
have increased tremendously over the last 40 years . The way it stands at this time is unsafe for all first responders , fire , EMS and the officers when they need to be heard and / or sent to calls for service .
With the latest news of Intel coming to a nearby county , a study has been done on the trickle effects of neighboring communities that will absorb growth from this size of a company . It ’ s very important to bring the staff back to capacity and revamp the dispatch / communications center to handle any call volume that may come to our community .

COMMISSIONERS
Continued from 13 They give about a quarter of a million dollars to the airport annually so the elite have a place to play with their toys . They gave two members of their personal staff / family members a 28 % raise in 2022 . They botched a $ 5 million deal with OHIOTT . They botched the new sales tax and misled the voters , then said they would fix it but once again they let you down . They couldn ’ t fix the county budget , so they raised the license plate tax on you without your consent . All these things cost the citizens tax money , but the current board just tries to justify the mistakes instead of fixing them .
So I am running to rectify their mistakes and right the ship when no one else wants to . No , I am not a politician nor have the lust to become one , but when I saw our current board will not change without an average citizen to represent the people , I felt I had to run .
What past experiences do you feel qualify you for this position ?
I ’ ve been an active member of several local clubs and organizations . I ’ ve attended more county commissioner meetings than the other candidates combined then doubled , and when I can ’ t make it , I still pay close attention to everything going on . I regularly communicate with people on all levels of the county government to help understand their jobs and needs . As an average citizen , I understand
|
the concerns , struggles and desires of the average Coshocton County resident , not just the upper class .
What would be your top priorities if elected ?
We need to curb government waste and ensure continued efficient operation of essential county government agencies like police , EMS and road maintenance without raising taxes . I want to bring more visibility to the office and get the community more informed of things going on at a county level . While I see the need for many other improvements throughout the county , some feasible goals would be improved drainage from flood-prone areas and improving road conditions throughout the county . I also think the board could improve relationships with township , village and city governments .

Why are you running for this position ?
I can see I have the ability to make some changes within the office for the better .
What past experiences do you feel qualify you for this position ?
I ’ ve been employed at Kraft Foods for 29 years , Three Rivers Fire District retired Southside House captain 23 years and Tuscarawas Township trustee over 20 years . I ’ m going to bring the office of the Coshocton County commissioners closer to the people . I will be out in
|
the public talking to the people , talking to local business owners , talking to our local farmers about their wants and needs . I will work closer with trustees for grants for upgrading money for all townships . I will not stop working for the people of Coshocton County . I ’ m the most qualified for the job . And I ’ m ready to go to work for the people .
HURRY !
These sell
out FAST !
What would be your top priorities if elected ?

People in the county need educated in the county commissioners ’ actual functions .
Whenever people come into the office for an issue , I want to take the intimidation factor away . I want them to feel more relaxed . I want to make it a lot more relaxed

environment when people come into the office .
I want to educate people and talk to them to find out what they would like to see different and how I could help them . I think that ’ s what this is all about . There are a lot of township trustees and fiscal officers who are not aware of what they can do as far as getting grant money through the
commissioners ’ office . I want to work with the people . The working people in Coshocton County are what make the wheels turn . That ’ s who I ’ m all for — the voters . I ’ m going to make a difference .
