WHO WE ARE

The Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District ( CSWCD ) is a legally organized subdivision of State Government given the responsibility of protecting soil and water resources . The CSWCD has been part of this community for 83 years , formed by a referendum vote in the spring of 1942 . The CSWCD is directed by a Board of Supervisors which consists of five local people who are elected by members of the community . This governing body formulates policy and manages the business affairs of the District . These public officials serve three year terms and serve without pay to govern the local program . This stable leadership retains four full time employees to carry out the day to day priorities established with community input . Since 1942 , 49 individuals have served our community as board members . The success of the CSWCD program is directly related to the dedicated support of our current Board of Supervisors who have a combined 67 years of volunteer service . Their commitment to the wise use of our soil and water resources make our community a better place to live .

FUNDING

Funding for the district begins with local appropriations from the Coshocton County Commissioners . Additionally , the City of Coshocton provides funding for storm water management education . These monies are matched by the State of Ohio . These funds are maintained by the County Auditor for the operation of the CSWCD . In 2024 , this amounted to $ 391,509.00 . In 2024 , $ 774,932.67 was paid to Coshocton County landowners as cost share to install conservation practices . These funds pay for a portion of the practice with the landowner also paying a portion . An additional benefit to these cost share dollars is the money spent by producers to support local businesses for contractors , materials , and supplies . This amounts to $ 3.78 being returned to Coshocton County landowners for every local dollar invested in the CSWCD . We are proud of the conservation work done by landowners in cooperation with our office .
