Rain doesn ’ t dampen Christmas spirit in Warsaw
By Marianne Austin
The small-town Christmas spirit was alive in Warsaw on Sunday evening , Nov . 27 . Rain didn ’ t dampen the heart of the celebration at all .
Lonestar Fire Protection & Security supplied hot chocolate , cookies and candy canes . Ava and Tara Donnell handed out the treats . Seven-year-old Cade Olinger had some of the treats while waiting for Santa to arrive . Aynalee Wallen , a kindergartener at Warsaw Elementary School , had some hot chocolate as well .
The Warsaw Lions Club provides candles for the Christmas lighting ceremony every year before the lighting of the village Christmas tree in advance of the main event . Santa Claus arrived in the parade and met with children under the pavilion on the village green .
Once families visited with Santa , they were invited over for another activity at the local museum .
“ The Christmas tree lighting at the Walhonding Valley Historical Society had 23 Christmas trees this year ,” curator Dave Snyder said . “ Local businesses from Coshocton and Warsaw put up the trees . Fifth- and sixthgraders from Warsaw Elementary put up two trees .”
Each tree on display had a theme .
“ Wesney ’ s painting and remodeling built their tree out of a ladder and put things like paint brushes on it ,” Snyder said . “ The post office has a tree with post office boxes , and we have a Christmas room upstairs that has various antique Christmas knickknacks . Fischer Funeral Home does the Ohio State tree every year . There is a tree with all antique bulbs and ornaments that Dave Lehr donated . The kids do a bang-up job with their Christmas trees . All of their ornaments are handmade .”
Nine-year-old Gavin Miller , a third-grade student at Warsaw Elementary , said the Ohio State tree was his favorite .
“ I like how it has the winter effect of white snow , and I also like the Ohio State ornaments . I kind of get that from my father ,” he said .
