Weaver crowns twin sister at homecoming contest

Kyra Weaver had the pleasure of crowning her twin sister Alyna on Thursday evening , July 28 during the West Lafayette Homecoming queen contest .

“ She crowned me when I was junior queen , so it ’ s déjà vu but backwards ,” Kyra Weaver said .
“ I had to take a breath before I crowned her . I wasn ’ t ready to give it up . I ’ m glad it ’ s Alyna though because that made it easier . I hope she realizes she has a legacy before her but also creates her own .”
Alyna Weaver and her first attendant Madeleine Larrison held hands while they waited for the big reveal as to whom would be crowned queen .
“ This is an honor and a big surprise ,” Alyna Weaver said . “ Me and Madeleine were scared to death .”
Alyna Weaver said she is looking forward to being a role model for little girls . “ The kids are my favorite part ,” she said . “ I love to wave at all the little kids .”
Larrison said during the competition that it would be an honor to represent West Lafayette and share about the small community with a big heart .
Alyna Weaver and Larrison were joined on stage by queen third attendant Alayah Reynolds and second attendant Caitlin Swiney . Both Reynolds and Swiney said during the contest they were excited to show girls and boys they can follow their dreams and be anything they want .

Anastasia Francis , Little Mister Benton Medley , Jr . Miss Attendant Aubrey Morris , Jr . Miss Kailyn Emig , Mini Queen Kinsley Smith and Jr . Queen Layla Moore .
The court also includes a senior queen , which is selected by nominations from people in the community . This year , however , two were selected .
The honorary senior queen is the late Paula Cheney , who passed away at the age of 66 on Aug . 11 , 2020 . She graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1972 and worked for Chase Bank . Cheney was active at the First Baptist Church , was always a fan in the stands at football games and supported the West Lafayette Homecoming queen contest . Her sash , crown and flowers were accepted by her husband Tim Cheney and daughter Sara Cheney .
The other senior queen for 2022 is Jody Seibert . She graduated from Ridgewood High School and is the owner of Jody ’ s Dance Studio , where she has touched thousands of children ’ s lives through dance .
“ Thank you ,” Seibert said . “ I am really surprised . This town is the best . I was born and raised here and have been to every homecoming my whole life .”
