Maple, a Coshocton native, is running his campaign on fiscal responsibility, protection of the Second Amendment, the advocation for civil rights and fighting corruption at the state level. He also wants to better represent essential workers, many whose voices he feels have gone unheard or have been treated unfairly during the outbreak of COVID-19. Maple has been an essential worker since the pandemic began and is a student currently enrolled at Ohio University Zanesville. He also has been a volunteer working with the Coshocton Visitors Bureau and Our Town Coshocton. People need representatives who are actually going to stand up and fight for them.” Maple also believes in prioritizing bringing broadband access to rural communities in light of the pandemic affecting District 72. He believes limited access to broadband makes it difficult for the district’s school children, especially with education moving toward a more virtual atmosphere for this coming school year. Maple’s name will not physically appear on the ballot; his name can be written in on the ballot as an official write-in candidate. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. The election for Ohio House representatives will appear on the ballot. For more information about Maple and his campaign, go to www.facebook. com/TylerMapleForPublicOffice. Kids’ Corner: Painting with different types of objects By Jen Jones Any kind of artwork will inspire your child’s imagination and stimulate their brain. Children often paint pictures out of proportion to emphasize what is really important to them in their art. Have you ever noticed an animal is larger than the people in a picture? That often means the animal was more exciting to the child. Painting also gives children an educational experience that is fun. They develop eye-hand coordination and other fine motor skills. They learn to look at all of the details of what they want to paint. Their ability to concentrate for longer periods of time begins to develop as they paint. Children also learn self-confidence when their pictures are praised and displayed. Many people think painting with a brush is the only way for a child to develop these skills, but painting itself is what builds these skills. For some children the challenge of using a brush is too difficult at the level they are at and they may give up when their frustration becomes too much. Painting needs to be fun for a child. When your children are ready for a fun day of painting, grab a stack of paper, bottles of paint and a few brushes, then look around your home for other objects your child can paint with: combs, fly swatters, cotton balls, toothbrushes, rolling pins. Anything your child can dip in or roll through paint will create amazing designs. Sophia and Sawyer Sellers tried painting with Q-tips, straws and feathers. Their favorite experiment, however, was painting with seashells they picked out of their collection from a past vacation. The sisters dipped the seashells in paint and rolled them on paper. When they were done, they had colorful pictures and painted seashells to put on display. SEND US YOUR NEWS! On July 4th, 2020 The family of Celesta Hamilton celebrated her special day of becoming 100 years old. The Care Center had a drive around to visit their families. Our mom sat with her flags in her hands, smiling. When we drove up to her, she waved at us, we yelled and told her, Happy Birthday! She just laughed and peaceful, she said, “How are you?”. Everyone’s cars were decorated to let the familys know they were special. Later, the family gathered around her window and waved. Everyone talked to her, they laughed, she smiled and waved at the ones who held their grandchildren, so she could see them. There were family pictures taken. The family gives thanks to her care center and staff, for their care they give our mom. We thank everyone who called to wish her a great day. We thank you for your flowers, cards and balloons. Most of all, Thank You for making her day special. To see her smile was so special. Mom worked hard and did for everyone. On that day, she was special. Thanks to all for her day.
