Crowdy retiring from Coshocton Public Library

The Coshocton Public Library announced the retirement of youth services manager Deborah Crowdy .
Crowdy dedicated over 13 years of service to the library , starting out as a local history / reference assistant . In 2014 she became the children ’ s services coordinator and was later promoted to the position of youth services manager upon the decision to merge the children ’ s and teen departments in 2018 .
“ Hands-down my favorite part of my job has been the opportunity to engage with children and teens in the programming environment . I am so energized by sharing a love of reading with patrons of all ages ,” Crowdy said .
Crowdy was awarded the Coshocton Rotary Employee of the Year in 2013 .
A special memory Crowdy shared was being recognized by voice for her WTNS story times , something she enjoyed providing for many years . While at a local drive-thru , the worker asked if she was the lady who reads stories and said , “ I always listen and recognize your voice .”
During her years as a leader of the youth department , Crowdy ’ s team consisted of two youth coordinators and one youth assistant . “ My work philosophy has always been that the team is better than any one individual ,” Crowdy said .
A notable accomplishment Crowdy oversaw during her time as manager was the addition of

high-quality and educational toys to the Coshocton and West Lafayette libraries . “ This was done with a view to make visiting the library even more of an event for children ,” Crowdy said .
Crowdy also helped launch the collaborative
summer programming committee , which consists of the library and four community partners . This committee ensures cultural and educational programs are provided every day over an eight-week period in the summer .
“ E i g h t s u m m e r s where we have emphasized summer reading have been such a highlight for me . I am a firm believer that reading in summer is vital for children and teens to avoid the summer slide of their educational accomplishments ,” Crowdy said .
One final dream Crowdy got to see fulfilled was the installation of the Coshocton StoryWalk this past spring at Clary Gardens . The StoryWalk project was made possible thanks to a partnership with Frontier Community Connection Fund and Clary Gardens .
“ It had been a goal of mine for many years to bring a StoryWalk to the Coshocton community to encourage the enjoyment of reading paired with the outdoors ,” Crowdy said .
The library recently filled the vacated position of youth services manager , and young patrons and their families can expect to see a new face in the building leading story times , book clubs , teen times and other youth programs this fall .
