Mary Harris Prizes essay contest is open for entries

The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum has announced the 2021 contest for the Mary Harris Prizes for nonfiction writing . All entries must be submitted to JHM by Nov . 1 .
The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum has announced the 2021 contest for the Mary Harris Prizes for nonfiction writing . All entries must be submitted to JHM by Nov . 1 . Essays must be 1,000-3,000 words and relate to the Coshocton Frontier . The competition is open to persons of any age who reside or work in Coshocton County including students whose permanent home is in Coshocton County .
The competition has $ 3,000 allotted for prize money — $ 1,000 for first place , $ 500 for second and five $ 200 prizes for honorable mention . A $ 500 award also will be granted at the discretion of the judges . Award winners will be announced at the museum on Nov . 18 following the Scholarly Chat with Dr . Scott Butler .
Essays must have some connection , possibly tenuous , to the Coshocton Frontier , which is defined as 18th-century Coshocton County . Only nonfiction with proper citations will be accepted . Works will be judged on writing quality , exposition of topic and accuracy . Essays that won first , second or third in previous years are ineligible . Other previously submitted entries may be resubmitted in whole or altered . Winners may enter with a new essay .
Entries must include name and contact information of applicant on a separate cover sheet and must be able to be edited by JHM staff to remove for blind judging . Paper copies will be accepted this year , but JHM does prefer to receive electronic copies .
Examples for topics include history , people , culture , Native American nations , languages and culture , flora and fauna , hunting , agriculture , child care , personal dress , make-up and body decoration , religion , philosophy , literature , et cetera . Footlight Players are excited for 2021-22

On Friday , July 30 , the Coshocton Footlight Players had an unveiling party to share the names of the plays they will perform in their 2021-22 season .
“ We are really excited to be back ,” Nick Fischer said . “ We were expecting about 100 people to the unveiling , but there were more than that .”
Drinks and desserts were served , and music was provided by the CoshocTONES and Jane Crow .
Each director from the season ’ s plays spoke about the play they will direct , and the winners of trivia questions received free tickets .
This year ’ s plays are “ Forever Plaid ,” musical , directed by Donovan Rice and presented in October ; “ The View from Here ,” comedy , directed by Nathan Mayse and presented
The Coshocton Footlight Players recently announced their 2021-22 schedule of plays .
Submitted in November / December ; “ Nanna ’ s Naughty Knickers ,” comedy , directed by Jackie McCune and Ellen Hardesty and presented in March ; “ Grey Gardens ,” musical , directed by Rice and presented in May ; and “ The Adventure of a Comic Book Artist ,” children ’ s play , directed by Kathy Huffman and presented in July .
“ It ’ s just great to be back . We are very excited and looking forward to getting back to it ,” Fischer said .
