Marianne Austin Young people show off their creative art projects at the Coshocton Public Library Craft Night .
Get creative this spring at your local libraries
By Marianne Austin
The Coshocton Public library as well as the West Lafayette Branch is a perfect place for creating awesome memories with your kids doing free programs at the library .
These fun activities encourage families to take advantage of library events and resources . The craft night project for March was silhouette art . Youth services coordinator Laiken Bantum said the ideas for art projects are sometimes based on different things going on at the library for that month . This month after seeing a story time craft person online make the silhouette she decided to try that using repurposed expired magazines from the library and turning them into art .

“ I thought it was a great idea ,” Bantum said . “ The activity is only for an hour and it took me a couple hours to make one . But all the materials are laid out tonight so we should be alright . This is our third craft night . It has had an excellent turnout every time . It is very popular . Fourteen were signed up for this one .”
Bantum made a silhouette of a vase and flower on a black background for her art and as an example for the young people . The children could select a background color of their choice , choose their theme from pictures they found in the magazines and cut and paste .
They came up with some very creative ideas , including a mermaid , horses , flowers and trees to name a few . Six-year-old Willow created her silhouette art piece using cutout photos of baby animals .
Seven-year-old Ava Ruby and sister Ella , 5-years-old attended with their mom and grandma . It is a family thing they enjoy doing together . Ava added cut outs of horses to her artwork because she loves animals . Ella created a silhouette of a flower garden with trees and flowers .
In April they will be making a fairy garden on Wednesday , April 12 from 5:30-6:30 p . m . at the Coshocton Public Library and Thursday , April 20 from 5:30-6:30 p . m . at the West Lafayette Branch .
