Last year was the first year of the 4-H Fun Fest , and membership in 4-H jumped about 50 members after it was held . Jenny Strickler of the OSU Extension is hoping this year will be the same .
The 4-H Fun Fest was held April 2 at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds . About 40 current 4-H members brought their projects to display to give those who attended a better idea of what all 4-H offers .
“ We wanted to promote 4-H to the community . Many people see us at the fair but really don ’ t know the wide variety of projects that members can take . It ’ s not just about animals . This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about 4-H ,” Strickler said .
When children checked in , they were given a bag with all kinds of information they would need if they wanted to join 4-H . They also were given a passport . At each project they visited
|
, they got their passport stamped , and when they had 16 stamps , they could turn the card in for a hot dog and ice cream .
“ We can reach out to the families with the information on the card ,” Strickler said .
She also said people can join any 4-H club ; it doesn ’ t have to be one that meets close to them .
|
“ Some clubs are more focused on certain projects such as horses , and if you want to take a horse , joining one of those clubs might be a better fit for you . But really , you can join any club you want to ,” Strickler said .
There are 28 4-H clubs in Coshocton County .

fun fest . He brought his chicken to show attendees .
“ 4-H helps build organization skills . You have to be organized in all the steps of your project . It ’ s really cool to learn about all different animals , and the nonanimal projects are fun to do too ,” he said .
Stotts said he joined when his family moved out of the city and his parents encouraged him to follow in their footsteps and join .
Natalie Huston brought her duck to show people at the fun fest . “ 4-H gives me more chances to be with animals . I get to be myself too ,” she said .
Huston said she shows market chickens , market duck and fancy duck . “ During the show you have to answer questions about your duck ,” she said .
Huston said she would encourage other kids to join 4-H because they can just be themselves and meet new people .

10th year in 4-H . “ We live on a farm , so my mom and dad kinda made me join , but after the first meeting , I really enjoyed it . I like seeing the younger kids join and have fun too . 4-H teaches you leadership skills and gives you great experiences . It ’ s been worth it to me . I did
