COSHOCTON CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
VOTE FOR
4.813 MIL SUBSTITUTE LEVY ON THE MAY 2 , 2023 BALLOT
THIS LEVY WILL INITIALLY BRING IN THE SAME $ 900,000 AS THE CURRENT EMERGENCY LEVY .
A SUBSTITUTE LEVY WILL ALLOW THE DISTRICT TO BRING IN ADDITIONAL REVENUE IF THE COMMUNITY HAS NEW HOME AND / OR BUSINESS CONSTRUCTION . THIS IS A GREAT TIME FOR THE DISTRICT TO SUBSTITUTE THE CURRENT EMERGENCY LEVY WITH A SUBSTITUTE EMERGENCY LEVY . WITH THE NEW SUBSTITUTE LEVY IN PLACE - IF THE COMMUNITY WOULD EXPERIENCE GROWTH AS A RESULT OF INTEL , THE DISTRICT WOULD RECEIVE INCREASED TAX REVENUE FROM THAT GROWTH . IF THERE IS NOT GROWTH , THE LEVY WILL CONTINUE TO BRING IN THE SAME $ 900,000 AS THE CURRENT EMERGENCY LEVY
WHAT IS A SUBSTITUTE LEVY ? It is not a new tax and would not cost taxpayers additional dollars . It is a “ substitute ” for the current emergency levy with the same initial revenue collection . But unlike the expiring levy , the substitute levy allows for additional revenue when there is new home and / or business construction in the district .
WHEN WILL THE CURRENT LEVY EXPIRE ? The current emergency levy , was approved by the voters in 2018 for collection in 2019 through 2023 . Collection of the current levy will expire this year .
HOW LONG WILL THE SUBSTITUTE LEVY BE IN EFFECT ? The levy will remain in effect on a continuous basis and allow the district to maintain current programs and services for all students without having to keep going back to the voters to have it renewed .
HOW MUCH WILL THE LEVY GENERATE ? The substitute levy will initially generate $ 900,000 for the district , which is the same amount as the current Emergency levy .
WHAT DOES THIS LEVY FUND ? Dollars generated from this levy will fund dayto-day operational expenses such as utilities , bus fuel , classroom supplies , and quality teachers . This revenue helps to maintain the current services provided to our students , their families , and our community .
WITH THE SUBSTITUTE LEVY , WHAT IS THE COST PER $ 100K ? The cost calculates to $ 168 for each $ 100,000 of the county auditor ’ s appraised value . This is before any eligible deductions are taken off .
WHAT IS THE MILLAGE THAT WILL BE COLLECTED ON THE NEW LEVY ? The levy requires the county auditor to collect $ 900,000 which calculates to 4.813 mills for each $ 1 of taxable value . The initial calculation of millage for the new levy would be the same as the calculation for the existing Emergency levy because the collection will be the same for the first year .
