Music groups perform at middle school
ARTSNCT will present live music as part of its Arts for All community performance series.
On Saturday, April 12 at 1 p. m., the stage at Newcomerstown Middle School will come alive with the Dover High School steel drum band and jazz band. This concert is free to attend.
Adding to the festivities, this concert is one of two celebratory events honoring the 100-year anniversary of the Newcomerstown Middle School building. As part of the milestone celebration, attendees can have a freewill donation lunch offered by the Newcomerstown Historical Society, beginning at 11:30 a. m. in the school’ s cafeteria.
The grand finale of ARTSNCT’ s free concert series will be a concert featuring a 20-piece professional orchestra of Northern Ohio’ s finest musicians, under the baton of maestro Joseph Rubin, on Saturday, May 17 at 2 p. m. on stage at the middle school. For those unfamiliar with Yingling, he was a world-renowned musician born in Newcomerstown. In 1920 he was a featured trombonist in John Philip Sousa’ s Band.

First Step celebrates past and future

On April 1 First Step Family Violence Intervention Services celebrated 30 years of helping others and the retirement of Director Vicki Laudick, who is pictured. Following in Laudick’ s footsteps will be Megan Philabaum and April Johnson, co-directors. Philabaum will be the fiscal director and also will focus on grant writing. Johnson will handle direct services, the shelter and prevention services in the community. Laudick is confident those replacing her will keep up with the times and growth will continue.
