OUR MISSION MEETS YOURS
As we publish this edition The
Connection, our message is one of
outreach and community. We remain
dedicated to providing services to
you and to the business clients who
have placed their trust in us. With
ongoing care and benefits, we’ve kept
injured workers front and center, in
no small part, due to a professional
and empathetic staff we have all
come to count on.
The challenges are not fully behind
us. Yet here we take a respite, putting
faces to the services we put in
practice and highlighting strategies
to benefit your agency--all with a
hopeful look toward the future.
This issue of The Connection focuses on our strengths as a monoline
workers’ compensation insurer. American Alarm & Communications is our
featured policyholder, and they take us through their product development
and how we’ve kept pace as their insurer. In the current marketplace, Senior
Underwriter Jim Marcoulier confirms why brokers often think of us first. A
former broker, he gives us a first-hand account of what it’s like from both
sides.
Our underwriters and assistants work hand-in-glove with our production
departments, and Rating Supervisor Nina LaFauci and Fleet & Office
Services Manager Michael Freed give us a glimpse into those operations.
At the other end of the policy cycle is premium audit, and Joseph DiRico
discusses that process and fraudulent practices we come across.
Given recent events, we might overlook day-to-day risks, like heat
exposure in the workplace. Tom Bochart, Injury Prevention & Worksite
Wellness Consultant, reminds us of what to watch for. Another widespread
risk is cyber, and Network Analyst Shawn Huff focuses on phishing and the
heightened need for employee training.
Finally, “Beyond the First Report” is the last in our series highlighting
memorable claims. Supervisors Lena DeChristoforo and Candace Wilusz
share cases that resonate as training tools. No one knows the value of these
cases more than Laurie Parsons, our Director of Claim, who trains her staff
to be thorough, responsive and above all, compassionate.
After an impressive claims career, more than half of it with us, Laurie
is retiring June 1. Under her direction, we’ve set amazing standards for
injury management. Most recently, she spearheaded efforts to launch a
Catastrophic Claim Team, whose mission is trauma response, attending to
the injured worker as well as to those who witness the event. She has made
a lasting impact on this organization, and we wish her all good things in this
next chapter.
