YOUR SPORTS QUESTIONS ANSWERED!!

ADVICE COLUMN 2014

WITH ANTHONY DEVITO

Q: I have always loved baseball and decided to try out for the varsity team last year . I ended up getting cut because of my size, despite that my talent level is better than others. This really took a lot out of my confidence. Any advise on how to make the team this year?

A: Well, knowing that your talent level is better than others who made the team last year, this should boost your confidence. Coaches look for confidence in a player. You should not let this impact your confidence level. it should only motivate you to get bigger and stronger for next year. While having the talent level, the size, and the confidence factor, how could you not make the team? Confidence and hard work is more than half the battle. With these two, and making yourself noticed, you will gain recognition. Good luck to you!

Q: I have and always will love playing basketball. I played jv last year, and this year I am on varsity. However, it has been a struggle to make practices, play games, and maintain good grades as well. If I do not get all B's this quarter, my parents will make me quit. How can I manage my time for athletics, academics, and free time efficiently?

A: Playing a sport is great for you. Not only is it fun, but it teaches discipline and character as well. Avoid quitting at all cost. However , managing academics and athletics is a struggle for many. After school you go to practice , but instead of wasting time after practice , you may have to go straight home to get work done. If sports is so important to you, then you will have to sacrifice free time and time with friends. You can also seek help from teachers and friends in school as well.
