McLANE CHILDREN’S: SPECIAL EVENT
Event raises more than $200,000 for equipment at McLane Children’s
More than 750 guests two-stepped
at the 2019 Visionaries Boots & Bandanas
event on May 11 at Schoepf’s BBQ in
Belton to raise money for a Mobile C-Arm
imaging device for Baylor Scott & White
McLane Children’s Medical Center.
Two-time Country Music Award winner
John Michael Montgomery headlined
the event, with opening act Jarrod
Birmingham. Guests also enjoyed dinner,
dancing, and both a live and silent auction.
“We were so thrilled to have John
Michael Montgomery at this year’s event,”
says Julie Michaux, chair for the Boots
& Bandanas 2019 committee. “McLane
Children’s is such an important resource
for children in Central Texas. It’s wonderful
to see our community and so many
organizations come together at this event
to support the hospital.”
Net proceeds from the event will be
used to purchase an additional Mobile
C-Arm imaging device, which uses x-ray
technology to produce high-resolution
images in real-time during delicate
surgeries, allowing doctors to identify
anatomy and monitor progress.
The Mobile C-Arm is an important
component of minimally invasive surgeries
that allow doctors to operate with less
damage to the body than with open
surgery, as well as emergency surgeries
that require doctors to evaluate and
respond rapidly.
“This equipment benefits many of
our young patients,” says John Boyd, III,
MD, president and chief medical officer
at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s
Medical Center. “Particularly in trauma
cases, this technology helps our surgeons
see things in real time and permits them to
act quickly with precision—all necessities
during operations such as those around
the spinal cord.”
“We are deeply grateful to all our Boots
& Bandanas donors,” says Jana Sharpley,
president for Baylor Scott & White Central
Texas Foundation. “Your support enables
us to continue to provide exceptional care
to the children and families we serve.”
KCEN-TV news anchors Kris Radcliffe and Leslie
Draffin emceed the event.
More than 750 guests flocked to Schoepf’s
BBQ to do-si-do and help raise funds to
support McLane Children’s.
