Fitting It All In

The Droplets chime sounding 5:00 am interrupted my dream. I glanced at the windows. Still dark. I laid there for a couple of minutes, contemplating to forgo the workout this morning and postpone it for after work. I dismissed it quickly; that’s never gonna happen, tried, and failed. How about taking today off, another thought popped in mind. That means I would have to fit “it” in some other day. Oh, well… I am awake now, there is no way I could go back to sleep, I did not plan last night to have an off day.

I sit up at the edge of the bed and stretch briefly. Quickly, I get out of bed, wash my face, put my workout clothes on and head out into the dimly lit kitchen. I start my automatic routine. Drink a glass of water, turn on the kitchen light, the programmed tea kettle, and the expresso coffee machine. It’s a weekday, so unlike the Cappuccino weekend ritual, I will have a double expresso with a dollop of coconut creamer (no sugar), and half a fig bar with almond butter. Recently I incorporated a 10-minute pseudo-meditation routine while I sit in the IKEA chaise long in the living room and drink my coffee in solitude. My eyes, when not meditating, are on the watch. I have about 45 minutes to get “my brain started” as I like to say, to be able to get on with my workout. Let’s see… what did I do yesterday for workout, outside or inside depending on the weather? What am I in the mood for now that the time has changed? The first light is setting in… now I could run outside earlier in the morning? Hmm, decisions, decisions… love running early morning. Ok, running outside it is, I say it to myself as I head towards the kitchen wall to do my five-minute joint stretching routine.
