Transgender Awareness Week is celebrated each November, with programming culminating on November 20th for Trasngender Day of Remembrance, where we honor those murdered and speak out against anti-transgender violence.

During Transgender Awareness Week, the Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA) hung t-shirts representing 44 transgender people murdered in the US from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. The vast majority of those taken were women of color with the actual number likely higher as violence against the transgender community is extremely underreported.

On Transgender Day of Remembrance, the MSPA assisted PFLAG and EqualityMaine with the Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil at the Equality Community Center in Portland, ME.
