Four COM students presented at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. This meeting is the largest gathering of anesthesiologists in the country. OMS-II students Kaye Dandrea, Daria Ivenitsky, and Chuhao Nie presented as part of a medical student research fellowship, hosted by the Foundation for Anesthesia Research and Education (FAER). In addition, Natalie Koons, OMS-III presented her research on mental health and wellness during medical school and residency at the main poster session. The ASA welcomes students and is very supportive of student research projects.

The FAER Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) is an 8 - 12 week summer program for medical students to gain experience in anesthesia research, as well as exposure to anesthesia as a specialty. Participants usually are between their first and second year, or third and fourth years, of medical school. Accepted applicants are placed at varying host institutions throughout the country for their program. Kaye was hosted by the University of Chicago, Daria by Montefiore Medical Center, and Chuhao by the University of Pittsburgh. All three students had great experiences at their host sites and gained valuable insight through this program. Following the summer experience, students are invited to the ASA Annual Meeting to present projects they worked on. Not only is this a great way to gain research and presentation skills, it's also a wonderful opportunity to connect with other medical students and physicians alike.
