For some, the pandemic forced a shift in our habitual behaviors. Isolated from family, friends, and all social interactions, there, within the confines of our minds, lurked a necessary drive to abandon the constricting walls of our home, reawaken our intrepid selves and venture outdoors. The Fishin’ Physicians are a group of COM students who fueled their cups with the joys of nature, merging their need for self-care with their love of fishing, showing all of us the possibility and necessity of wellness.

Who are the Fishin' Physicians?

Student Doctors Kelsey Klingel, Charlie Bloom and Hannah Akre share their creation story:

Originally, the Fishin’ Physicians were just a group of friends who would squeeze in fishing before or after class as a way to rejuvenate ourselves. Through this, we built a community who believed in what we were doing- supporting our mental health through the outdoors, during extremely trying times. We began to feel this positivity and that our work/life balance was worth sharing with a wider audience, so we started an Instagram page @fishinphysicians. The Fishin’ Physicians page has grown before our eyes, showing us how important our message is to the medical and fishing communities alike.
