Their most recent mission was to help the Nepalese people during the pandemic. Those who used to travel to India for work are now unable to cross the border due to shutdowns in India. Although the Indian government agreed to bus thousands of homeless and unemployed Nepalese workers back to Nepal, they don’t have adequate food, and water, and await COVID19 testing before they return to their villages. Health Goes Global raised money to go directly toward food, water and medical care. In conjunction with the Nepalese organization, BlinkNow, and the Kopila Valley Clinic, Health Goes Global is helping to bring necessary supplies to the area including first aid products, mosquito netting, diapers, menstrual products, etc. In addition, they were able to bring 13,464 bottles of clean drinking water, and deliver 20,000 hot, nutritious meals to the region.
Student Doctor Akre encourages everyone to do what they can, which means staying home if you can:
It did feel fulfilling to help in a tangible way. However, sitting in my apartment writing this, I feel a similar sense of purpose. I want to highlight how great a contribution to your community it is to stay home, protecting those around you who may be most vulnerable to the virus. If you still feel like you need to do something, I encourage you to spread positivity through social media or a poster in your window for neighbors to see. Connect and check in with family and old friends with a text or phone call. This is a challenging time for everyone. No matter the magnitude of your struggle, it is real to you and warrants support. If you have the means to do so and wish to contribute to Health Goes Global as we gear up to ship additional PPE around the country, we welcome your generosity. Otherwise enjoy our Instagram page (@healthgoesglobal) sharing positive messages daily!
