UNE COM PROVIDES OPIOID TRAINING FOR STUDENTS AND ALUMNI

Adding to the conversation on opioids, COM’s Addiction Medicine Club held an opioid overdose response training put on by the Portland Public Health Department. According to second-year COM student, Catherine Frye, “It was extremely helpful to learn from professionals, in the midst of the crisis, how medical students can all be prepared for such an event. They provided an inside perspective on how Maine is approaching this overwhelming issue.”

At UNE COM's Fall CME & Alumni Weekend conference, COM faculty, Stuart Damon, DO '03, gave the talk, ""Health Policy Brief: The Role of the Physician in the Opioid Crisis," which he was selected to present at the American Osteopathic College of Occupational & Preventive Medicine's (AOCOPM) Annual Meeting held at OMED.

At the Fall CME, DEA Agent Jon DeLena gave a follow-up lecture, "Opioid Crisis at Home," which addressed the growing concern of fentanyl and methamphetamine in New England.
