Jay Lavrich, OMS-I recognized Jacob Longfellow, OMS-II with the Sigma Sigma Phi Strong Scholarship, and the UNE COM tour guides and interviewers were recognized by Elise Murphy, and Tracie Purcell, members of the recruitment team in the Office of Recruitment, Student & Alumni Services (RSAS).
This year, the Outstanding Notable Start-up was awarded to a group of people who made the Deane Kenny Stryker Scholarship not only possible, but were successful in making it an endowed scholarship, with $33,505 raised currently. The Student Government Association (SGA) Social Committee, led by Meghan Jastrzembski, OMS-II, took the award for all their work on the Wine Tasting Fundraiser that was the initial Fall event dedicated for the scholarship. One nomination stated: “It is because of Meghan’s efforts through this event that the scholarship was able to get a start and move forward. It connected the UNE COM community… and was beautifully put together… I hope to see this event continue to grow, and I have a strong reason to believe that it will do just that.”
The Outstanding Individual Effort was deservedly bestowed upon Jenna Wozer for the myriad ways she has contributed this year to the growth, support, and well-being of UNE COM. She was the President for White Coats for Black Lives, and also very active in the Health Equality Alliance, and the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), where, along with Sam Culver, OMS-II, she helped to arrange a local civic demonstration in less than 24 hours. In addition, she is a COM interviewer, tutor, and helped organize a workshop on microaggressions. In her spare time, she helped form the Equity Diversity Advancement Committee (EDAC), and served as chair. Under her leadership, the committee drafted UNE COM’s diversity statement that was adopted this year. One nomination stated, “Jenna Wozer is the student who has gone beyond as a UNE COM student. Notably, her dedication to diversity education and programs at UNE COM is commendable. She leads by example as a wonderful friend, student, tutor and ally.”
